The promotion’s logo is therefore only the first part of a bout’s identity: the discipline label explains which contest the athletes are entering.
Two bouts on the same card can use different round lengths and judging systems. Reading every ONE matchup as an MMA bout would conceal those differences.
The clock changes with the discipline
Under ONE’s published rules, ordinary MMA bouts have three five-minute rounds and MMA world championship bouts five five-minute rounds. Muay Thai and kickboxing use three-minute rounds, with three in ordinary bouts and five in world championship bouts. Submission grappling uses one ten-minute round, including title bouts.
A graphic showing Round 2 consequently needs the discipline beside it to describe the bout fully. The same round number does not imply the same scheduled duration across the card.
MMA decisions assess the complete bout
ONE’s MMA judges assess the contest in its entirety. They do not add a separate score for each round in the way a round-by-round ten-point system does. The published criteria prioritise near finishes and damage ahead of the lower criteria.
Muay Thai and kickboxing decisions use round-by-round scoring under their own rules. A comparison between their scorecards and an MMA decision should retain this distinction rather than treating one system as a universal ONE scoring method.
A weight-class name also needs its context
A card identifies a discipline, weight category and whether a world title is involved. These labels work together. A title at one discipline and weight is distinct from a title in another discipline, even if the same athlete is associated with both.
For a programme guide, retain those bout descriptors alongside the athletes. They explain why the next matchup may look and be judged differently while remaining part of the same ONE event.
