It is a new contest following those title campaigns, rather than another leg of either earlier final.
The 2026 field is Mamelodi Sundowns, the 2025/26 Champions League winner, against USM Alger, the corresponding Confederation Cup winner. Their two qualifying titles explain participation without supplying starting goals in the Super Cup.
Two trophies feed the fixture
The CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup are separate interclub competitions. Their winners meet in the Super Cup. A domestic league title alone does not establish one of these two entry identities.
A new scoreboard begins
The clubs’ earlier continental final scores do not combine into a Super Cup aggregate. A previous two-leg title campaign can qualify a club for a later single-match contest. Those mechanisms describe successive competitions, not one continuous tie.
Club football is distinct from AFCON
The Africa Cup of Nations is a national-team competition. A Super Cup match between clubs does not involve national squads or contribute to an AFCON group. Shared CAF organisation does not merge the fields.
Use the edition to explain the holders
The named Champions League and Confederation Cup seasons identify which titleholders earned the 2026 place. A later edition can have different participants even though the entry rule looks familiar. A logo or historic pairing does not prove a current match-up.
A programme can cover the ceremony as well as the match
A full event block may include build-up, the fixture and trophy presentation. A highlights entry may contain an edited account. The programme type should remain attached to its title rather than being mistaken for another sporting leg.

Keep the continental competition names intact
Shortening both predecessors to African cup winners hides which route each club took. The full names make the fixture understandable and distinguish it from domestic super cups or the separate UEFA Super Cup.
