Its finishing classification establishes the grid for Sunday’s opening race, while the established three-race Sunday programme remains.
This changes the meaning of a Saturday BTCC listing. Qualifying is no longer only a set of timed laps; it includes a competitive short race with a grid-setting job and Drivers’ Championship points.
Timed groups select the qualifying-race grid
The official session has two fifteen-minute groups. The group containing the fastest overall lap supplies the odd grid positions and the other the even positions. That grid belongs to the Saturday qualifying race, not directly to Sunday Race 1.
The short race supplies the next grid
The qualifying race is approximately fifteen minutes, expressed as a circuit-specific lap count. Its final classification then determines Sunday’s opening grid. A fast qualifying lap and a strong qualifying-race finish therefore do different work.
Driver points do not imply every championship scores
The Saturday race awards half round points rounded as specified, with ten for the winner. The published rules exclude the other named championship categories and omit extra points for leading or fastest lap. Do not extend the Drivers’ award to every team or trophy table.
Sunday still contains three races
The Saturday addition does not replace one of the three Sunday rounds. A meeting can therefore contain a qualifying race and three main races. A title shortened to Race 1 needs the day and programme context to avoid ambiguity.

Keep the effective season
Older BTCC Quick Six explanations do not describe the full 2026 Saturday sequence. Preserve season, qualifying session or qualifying race, and the main race number when saving coverage. That makes the sporting role of each programme clear without assuming all four races are identical in scoring.
