Its 2026/27 league stage expands to 32 clubs, divided into sixteen in the West and sixteen in the East.
The current field is larger than the preceding two 24-club editions. A guide describing every Elite season as 24 teams would therefore miss the effective 2026/27 change.
Eight opponents inside the region
Each club plays eight different opponents in its region, four at home and four away. It does not face all fifteen regional opponents, and it does not travel through a home-and-away mini-group of four. The East and West tables remain distinct.
The top eight in each region progress
Eight from the West and eight from the East reach the round of 16. The regional rankings establish pairings, with first against eighth, second against seventh, third against sixth and fourth against fifth.
The round of 16 uses two legs
The initial knockout ties remain within the region and use home-and-away matches. A return-leg programme therefore needs the first-leg result as context. The aggregate score and the score on the night are different numbers.
Finals means more than the final
The centralised Finals comprise quarter-finals, semi-finals and final as single matches. A programme labelled Finals can therefore describe the wider closing phase rather than only the championship match.

Keep Elite distinct from Two
AFC Champions League Two is a separate second-tier competition with a group-stage structure. The shared Champions League wording does not make their tables or routes interchangeable. Preserve Elite, region, edition and stage when identifying a programme.
