The 2026 edition uses twenty clubs and 38 rounds in a single points table.
Brazilian clubs can also appear in state championships, Copa do Brasil and CONMEBOL competitions. A match between two Brazilian teams is therefore not automatically a Brasileirão fixture. The formal competition heading supplies the context.
Rodada means league round
The CBF’s 2026 programme identifies 38 rodadas. The number locates a league scheduling round rather than a cup elimination stage. A rearranged fixture can be played later while contributing to the same championship table.
Read the Portuguese statistics
J is jogos, matches played; V is vitórias, wins; E is empates, draws; D is derrotas, losses. GP and GC count goals for and against, and SG is saldo de gols, goal difference. PTS is the accumulated points total.
The single group is the league table
The CBF table’s grupo único indicates one standings group. It should not be mistaken for a temporary four-team pool whose leading clubs automatically start a new league phase. The national title is pursued through the points campaign.
Domestic cups are separate brackets
Copa do Brasil is not another name for Brasileirão. The same club can have a league result and a cup result against a familiar opponent with different consequences. A cup victory does not add three points to the national league table.
State abbreviations help identify clubs
The CBF club directory includes state markers alongside participants. These can distinguish geographically recurring names and clarify which club a compact guide means. Retain a full name or state context where a short label is ambiguous.
| Table code | English meaning |
|---|---|
| J | Played |
| V / E / D | Wins / draws / losses |
| GP / GC | Goals for / against |
| SG | Goal difference |
Keep the calendar-year edition
The CBF’s league pages identify Ano 2026. A saved programme should retain that edition and rodada rather than assume the split-year label used by many European leagues. Competition identity and year together locate the result correctly.
