U: the current UKTV on-demand service

Find the current U service behind older UKTV Play instructions and distinguish selectable programmes from removed app live streams.

U is the free UK on-demand service previously named UKTV Play. Its current help associates it with U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W and U&Yesterday. The service has its own account and programme availability; an older channel or app label should not replace current viewing instructions.

Use the on-demand programme route

U’s FAQ says live streaming of its free-to-air channels has been removed from the U apps. Use search, categories or channel sections for the offered on-demand programmes instead. An old tutorial pointing to an app live row can therefore describe a feature no longer present.

A hypothetical viewer seeking one episode should search its title and inspect the current available season. The channel brand is useful context but does not guarantee every broadcast item is available online.

Free registration is not a paid tier

U says it uses advertising rather than a subscription fee and does not ask for payment details for its free service. Account registration and linking a supported screen are separate setup steps. Read the official action rather than assume every account prompt is a payment requirement.

The service is for UK use, and programme windows can differ according to rights. Keep the programme and current availability together in a viewing note rather than infer unlimited access from a box-set recommendation.

Parental controls need device-specific attention

U’s current FAQ says its parental PIN must be set on each device individually, even when devices use the same account. Once configured, it protects Guidance-labelled programmes on that device under the documented flow.

For a hypothetical household adding a second television, review that screen’s PIN rather than assume the first screen’s setting has synchronised. Keep personal passwords and private PINs out of a shared viewing guide.

Use U’s current ways-to-watch information for supported models and browsers. A change from UKTV Play branding to U does not establish that every historical device or feature remains supported; verify the route actually being used.
