If a second screen appears less restricted, check its own control state rather than assume the account has synchronised the first screen’s PIN.
List the screens that will actually be used
Identify the supported television, tablet, browser or other route used by the household. Keep the account linkage and parental-control state as separate checks. A screen can be signed into the right account while still needing its own control configuration.
A hypothetical family sets a PIN on the living-room television and later adds another screen. The second screen should be reviewed directly; matching account details do not prove the first device’s setting has travelled.
Apply the documented device rule
U says the PIN is configured in the account section on each device and is used for Guidance-labelled programmes. Follow the current instructions for that supported screen. Do not confuse the account’s sign-in password with the programme-control PIN.
Keep the PIN private and choose household access deliberately. A shared note can record that the screen was reviewed without containing the PIN itself.
| Check | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Account linkage | The intended U account is being used |
| This device’s PIN state | The local parental control has been configured |
| Guidance-labelled programme | The relevant protected programme context |
| Another screen | A separate control check is still needed |
Verify the viewing route after setup
Return to the normal programme-selection experience and inspect the intended control behaviour on that device. Use current U help if the interface differs. The purpose is to establish the screen’s state, not to infer it from a setting made elsewhere.
For an explicitly hypothetical household review, an adult can check the shared screen privately before leaving it ready for use. Avoid leaving the account-management area open or exposing the PIN in a photographed support request.
Keep the rule separate from content availability
U also documents programme rights windows and a UK viewing scope. A missing episode or removed live-stream row is a different issue from an unset PIN. Identify the exact message and task before changing parental settings to solve unrelated access problems.
An old UKTV Play guide may use earlier labels. Follow the current U documentation for the present screen rather than assume a legacy screenshot describes its controls or supported features.
Recheck when another route is added
Review this control when adding a device or changing the household’s supported viewing route. Record the device and date checked, while keeping credentials private. That gives the household a concrete way to maintain its intended settings instead of relying on an account-wide assumption the service does not make. Include shared screens as well as the personal phone used during setup.
