The US signup page lists Essential and Premium and sets out their advertising and feature differences. Premium adds benefits including downloads and selected higher-quality formats, subject to the title and device. Use the current local comparison if you subscribe outside the US; the same brand does not establish identical channel rights everywhere.
Start with an exact programme or use case. A hypothetical viewer catching up on a drama has different needs from someone who wants the local station’s evening bulletin. Keeping those tasks separate helps avoid paying for a feature that does not address the intended viewing.
A live CBS station is a particular feature
Paramount+ says the US Premium plan includes access to the local CBS station through its Live TV area where available. Essential provides on-demand CBS programming but does not generally include that continuous local station. The provider separately describes local NFL-on-CBS game access as an exception available on both plans.
Do not generalise that exception to every event on CBS or every live sport. Check the current event listing and your market. A featured sports tile can be an event-specific route rather than the full station you would see by selecting a continuous channel.
Check the episode and the playback format
Current CBS episodes generally become available after their broadcast under the service’s stated schedule, with programme exceptions possible. Confirm the exact series, season and episode before relying on a next-day assumption for a particular title.
For a household comparison, inspect four things together: the actual programme, whether you need it live, the plan’s feature row and the supported device. Advertising exceptions remain relevant to live television even when an offer describes much of its on-demand viewing as ad-free. Keep the subscription confirmation and billing route so later account questions can be directed to the party that manages the purchase.
