These are separate workflows with different controls and prerequisites.
Google’s wired-display guidance applies to Pixel 8 and later. The presence of a USB-C socket on an earlier phone does not establish the same feature.
Choose the workflow before buying an accessory
For native phone viewing, choose the Android phone edition of the player and check the app’s requirements. For app casting, the sending application and receiving device must support Google Cast. Screen sharing is another choice and may expose more than the video itself.
Google’s Pixel setting is Connected devices > Connection preferences > Google Cast. It offers sharing a single app or the entire screen. Choose the scope deliberately when other people can see the television.
A cable route has a model prerequisite
For Pixel 8 and later, Google documents a suitable DisplayPort or HDMI-to-USB-C display connection and a Mirror display prompt. A charging cable alone does not prove video capability. Check the display input and cable’s documented purpose.
Google also describes presentation behavior in Google Slides. That example is not a promise that every video player supports a separate-screen interface. A visible mirrored Home screen does not establish that protected media in a particular app can play externally.
Check the receiving technology
Google Cast and Miracast are different receiver technologies. Roku’s mirroring support documentation specifically distinguishes Pixel phones from supported Miracast Android senders. A TV appearing in one app does not establish that it accepts every wireless projection method.
Name the protocol and receiving model when asking for help. If the target supports only a different method, changing the service password cannot add the missing receiver capability.
Keep phone and service identity separate
Provide the Pixel model, installed Android version, player and chosen connection route. A Google Account can support device and store features; it does not authorize an independent television service. Confirm the supported app and account format before deciding that a larger display changes what the provider supplies.
