Define the rehearsal question
Choose a narrow task: retrieve a sample order record, recover a case summary or locate a dated confirmation. State which system and recovery route will be used. Do not overwrite the working record or expose live credentials merely to demonstrate that a backup exists.
Use the provider’s supported process
Follow the storage or application provider’s current restore instructions. Confirm the destination and whether restoring replaces existing data. Use an isolated authorised location where appropriate. If the tool cannot provide a safe rehearsal method, document that limit and ask the provider instead of improvising a destructive test.
Inspect the restored meaning
Check that references, dates, current-state labels and relevant attachments remain understandable. A file that opens may still omit the evidence link or next-action owner needed for continuity.

Record only what was actually tested
State the sample, date, method and result. Keep unresolved limits visible. Do not turn a successful sample retrieval into a guarantee that every record or incident can be recovered. Update the plan after a meaningful tool or storage change and protect any temporary restored copy according to its contents.
