Choose a track to select available programme audio, such as a language. Choose an output device to decide where the sound is played.
Changing headphones or speakers cannot create an audio language missing from the source, and changing the track does not necessarily change the system’s selected hardware route.
Identify the control you need
VideoLAN’s desktop menu reference lists audio-track selection, stereo mode, output device, volume and mute as separate operations. Start with the one related to your goal rather than changing all of them at once.
For a language choice, inspect the available tracks while the media is open. A generic track label may not explain its contents clearly, so listen at a comfortable level before assuming it is the desired language or audio-description track.
Check the listening device
If the track is present but sound comes from the wrong place, inspect the player’s output device and the operating system’s active sound route. A Bluetooth accessory or HDMI receiver adds another component to the path.
Keep the device’s own connection status separate from VLC’s track list. A saved Bluetooth pairing does not necessarily mean that the accessory is currently connected or selected for audio.
Use a controlled comparison
Use the same media while checking track selection, then the same track while checking the output device. This isolates two decisions that can otherwise appear to change together.
If one output works and another does not, record that observation. If one track works and another is silent, record the source/track difference. Do not call both cases an account failure without investigating the relevant layer.
Keep format claims conditional
A device or receiver supporting an audio format is one requirement, not proof that every source includes it or that the app sends it by the same route. Keep the source track, player setting and receiver indication separate in a support note.
For a Dream 4K playback issue, name the exact player, operating system, source and audio track where visible. Redact private network addresses. If the source has only one audio track, the player cannot supply another by changing the output device.
Other VLC editions can expose these controls differently. Use the documentation for the actual desktop or mobile version rather than hunting for a Windows menu on a television interface. The useful result is the intended available track reaching the intended listening device.
