Viki can display programme subtitles and Timed Comments from viewers. If text is crowding the video, first identify which layer you are seeing. Hiding audience comments and changing subtitle language are different tasks, so one should not be used as a substitute for the other.

Identify what the text is doing

Subtitles convey the programme’s available translation or text track. Timed Comments are audience contributions attached to a moment in the video. They may react to a character or scene rather than reproduce the dialogue.

For an explicitly hypothetical example, a viewer sees a remark about a character’s decision alongside the translated spoken line. The reaction is a different layer from the dialogue. Decide whether the goal is to remove reactions, change the translation or investigate a missing subtitle.

Use the comment control for audience reactions

Viki’s Timed Comments help says they can be turned on or off. Use the current control for the supported platform you are watching. Turning them off does not mean you need a different subscription or a completed replacement translation.

If you prefer a quieter screen, keep comments hidden while leaving the intended subtitle language enabled. If you want to read reactions again, restore that overlay deliberately rather than changing the programme’s audio or language settings.

Use subtitle preferences for the programme track

Viki’s current guide describes a preferred subtitle language saved to the account across supported platforms. The most recent manual choice can update that preference. Check the actual episode’s offered language before saving a new default.

A hypothetical viewer who selects Off during one session should check that saved preference before concluding subtitles disappeared everywhere. A preference and an available track are still separate: choosing a language cannot finish an incomplete community translation.

Keep incomplete subtitles separate from membership

Viki explains that community subtitle progress varies and that Pass and non-Pass viewers use the same subtitles. An unfinished track should not be interpreted as a paywall for the remaining translation. Check the language completion information on the episode.

Likewise, Pass does not override a regional restriction. If the video itself is unavailable, a comment or subtitle setting is not the relevant control. Preserve the exact message and viewing region before consulting official help.

Describe the observation precisely

If a problem remains, note the series, episode, region, chosen subtitle language and whether Timed Comments are visible. State whether text is missing, in the wrong language or merely an unwanted reaction overlay. That report is more useful than saying all captions are broken and prevents unrelated subscription changes.
