Before starting a long season, inspect the actual episodes and remaining window. A series in a saved list is a discovery aid; it should not be treated as a promise that the rights window has been extended.
Open the title page rather than rely on a thumbnail
Find the exact programme, season and episode you plan to watch. SBS’s help says expiry dates are displayed for titles leaving within the next three months, with the indication becoming more precise closer to removal. Read that message where it appears.
A hypothetical viewer may remember adding a drama to a list weeks earlier. Reopen its current page before choosing it for a holiday marathon; the saved recommendation and the remaining playback window answer different questions.
Use the exact end time when the display offers it
SBS says the message can move from weeks to days and hours, and some views reveal the exact end date and time when inspected. Preserve that current detail rather than estimate from an old screenshot.
If the display is unclear, consult the current official help for the device or browser. Do not convert a broad “leaving soon” label into a guaranteed full final day without the actual endpoint.
| Viewing detail | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Correct item | Programme, season and episode |
| Approaching expiry | Current weeks/days/hours indication |
| Final viewing plan | Exact end date/time where offered |
| Several episodes | Availability attached to the intended items |
| Saved list | A shortcut to recheck, not preservation of the window |
Make a realistic episode plan
Estimate how much viewing time you actually have before the displayed endpoint. Include the episodes you intend to finish rather than simply the series total. This is a planning exercise, not a claim that every episode shares the same deadline.
For an explicitly hypothetical example, a viewer with four evenings free and eight hour-long episodes should compare that workload with the remaining window. Choosing another currently available programme can be more practical than starting a season whose final episodes cannot fit the plan.
Keep location and account questions separate
SBS’s current live-service information gives an Australian rights scope, and its account help describes free registration. If the item is unavailable, identify whether the page indicates expiry, a location limit or an account step. Those are different observations.
A hypothetical viewer abroad with a valid account should not interpret every unavailable title as an expired password. Likewise, someone in Australia who reaches a removed programme should inspect its availability before repeating account verification.
Recheck close to the final session
Revisit the title page before the last planned viewing and update any household note from the current display. If the programme disappears earlier than expected, record the exact item, previously shown endpoint and message for official support. Distinguish a catalogue window from a listed, available episode that fails to play so the next investigation is focused.
