These are different routes. A phone showing a Cast control does not automatically support Roku screen mirroring.
Check both the sender and Roku model before following instructions. Sharing a screen also does not install the phone’s app on Roku.
Identify the supported sender
Roku’s Android example uses Samsung Smart View and explicitly says other phone models can differ. Google Pixel devices are a notable case where this Android mirroring route should not be assumed. Use the sender manufacturer’s compatibility guidance.
For Apple devices, follow Roku’s AirPlay instructions for the supported receiver. An AirPlay connection is not the same as Roku’s Android/Windows mirroring prompt, even if both show a phone image on the TV.
Choose the connection and approval
On a supported sender, start its wireless-display or screen-mirroring function and select the named Roku. Roku’s Windows 11 guidance uses Win + K and the wireless-display list. Confirm the requested connection on the television.
Roku offers Allow for the current session and Always allow for later connections without the same prompt. It also offers Block and Always block. Choose deliberately, especially on a shared television where another device can request display access.
Check the receiver model
Roku lists model-specific exceptions among older Express and Express+ products. It also distinguishes HDMI and composite output for one older Express+ model. Find the complete model under Settings > System > About before assuming a generic model-family name is sufficient.
If the sender is not discovered, investigate device support and network/settings before changing the service account. A receiver not appearing in a local list is different from a player rejecting a username.
Treat mirrored content and privacy separately
Mirroring can display the entire sender interface, including notifications and account fields. Close private screens before sharing and stop the session when finished. Roku documents Home on the Roku remote or disconnecting from the sender as ways to end mirroring.
An app can impose its own video-output conditions. A successful Home-screen mirror is not evidence that every media item can play through that route. For Dream 4K, confirm the chosen player feature and account method separately.
When requesting help, name the sender model and OS, Roku model, connection method and stage that fails. Those details distinguish a mirroring limitation, an AirPlay setting and a service-account issue without inventing a universal wireless route.
