Identify the active presentation branchRetain addressing and timing dependenciesRedact secrets while keeping relationshipsA DASH manifest can be large enough that pasting it wholesale obscures the failure and exposes unnecessary access information. The useful part is the selected playback branch and the timing/addressing context needed to understand its failing request.
Begin with one permitted item and a recorded observation time. This is an evidence-reduction procedure, not a way to modify a protected presentation or bypass access rules.
Identify the active presentation branch
Record whether the MPD is static or dynamic, the active Period identifier/start and the selected video/audio/text representations where diagnostics expose them. Keep the relevant AdaptationSet relationships. A representation that appears in the manifest but was never selected is not automatically part of the failure.
In an original hypothetical MPD, six video representations are advertised but the player selects v2 and English audio a1. A failed request for v2 should be reported with that branch, rather than a screenshot of the highest-resolution v6 label. This prevents support from analyzing the wrong workload.
Retain addressing and timing dependencies
Preserve the relevant initialization reference, media template or index context, timescale and presentation-time offset when they affect the failed resource. In a dynamic presentation, include the snapshot retrieval time and applicable availability context. Do not remove fields so aggressively that the remaining excerpt changes the meaning.
Record whether the first failure was manifest parsing, initialization retrieval, a media request or decoding after delivery. A 404 for a segment and a decoder error after a 200 response are different observations even when the player shows the same generic message.
Redact secrets while keeping relationships
Remove credential values, signed query data and unrelated track information. Retain stable labels or local placeholders consistently so the operator can follow the relationship between the selected representation and the failed resource. If the source needs an account-specific trace, use its documented private support channel.
A concise report contains item/time, player version, active Period, selected representations, relevant addressing fields, first failed resource role and exact error. State whether the issue repeats at the same position. This gives a developer enough context to investigate without pretending a small excerpt is a complete independently playable MPD.
- Locate the actual selected Period and representations.
- Keep the addressing and timing fields relevant to the failure.
- Record the earliest failed stage and exact outcome.
- Redact access secrets without breaking the relationships.
