Choose the purpose before exporting
Decide whether you need to preserve preferences, move an authorised setup or provide diagnostics. These tasks do not necessarily require the same export. If only a list of favourites is needed, check whether the app supports a narrower option. Avoid collecting a full account backup simply because it is the first menu item available.
Inspect and store proportionately
Use an export location you control. If the format can be inspected safely, check what account information it contains. If it cannot, treat it as sensitive until the developer explains the format. Do not upload it to public file-conversion sites or broad shared folders. Keep the original purchase evidence separately so removing an obsolete backup does not remove the order trail.
Restore only through supported steps
Confirm the destination app and version supported by the developer. An export’s existence does not establish cross-player compatibility or permission to duplicate account access. If a restore replaces existing settings, preserve the intended current setup first where supported.

Remove stale copies deliberately
After an authorised migration or resolved case, review temporary downloads, message attachments and shared copies you control. Deleting a browser’s download list is not necessarily the same as deleting the downloaded file. If a backup escaped to an unknown audience, ask the provider about exposed account values instead of relying on local cleanup alone.

Do not share a file that may contain your connection details. Use the developer’s non-secret setup instructions or a clearly fictional example instead. The same app name does not establish that an export is safe to exchange, compatible with another version or permitted by the service terms.
