The Women’s Premier League is India’s women’s franchise T20 cricket competition. Its 2026 programme contained five clubs, twenty league matches, an Eliminator and a Final.

The league leader went straight to the Final, with second and third contesting the Eliminator for the other place. The WPL and IPL share a cricket setting but use different playoff routes; their stage labels should not be copied between them.

Four opponents played twice

Five clubs give each team four opponents. Two meetings against each produce eight league matches per team. Five teams multiplied by eight appearances, divided by two teams per fixture, gives twenty league matches.

First place supplies a direct-final advantage

The top club avoids the Eliminator and awaits its winner. It still has to win the Final to become champion. Leading the league and winning the championship match are connected achievements with different completion points.

Second and third face immediate elimination

Their one-match Eliminator decides the remaining finalist. Unlike IPL Qualifier 1, the losing team does not receive another playoff opportunity. A programme simply labelled qualifier would therefore lose an important consequence.

The 2026 route has twenty-two fixtures

The twenty league matches plus two knockout matches produce 22 sporting fixtures. That total is independent of the number of previews, highlights or review programmes created around them.

Keep women’s and men’s franchise identities clear

Some club branding resembles men’s IPL identities, but the players, tables and competitions are distinct. Preserve WPL or Women’s Premier League, season and stage beside the club names. A result from one competition does not contribute points to the other, even where ownership or colours overlap.
