The winner receives the Claret Jug and the title Champion Golfer of the Year. The event moves between host courses, so its venue is part of an edition’s identity.
A programme may be labelled The Open or British Open in everyday listings. Keep the year and course with that name when distinguishing archived rounds from different editions.
The leaderboard adds rounds
The completed 2026 results show separate R1, R2, R3 and R4 values together with a total and a relation to par. Those columns describe different views of one stroke-play result. A low final round does not automatically mean the lowest four-round total.
Relative to par needs a progress marker
A displayed under-par total measures strokes against the par of holes completed. Through 12 and completed 18 are different amounts of play. A player ahead on the screen can still have holes to play while another has finished the round.
Course and edition supply the setting
The 154th Open in 2026 was staged at Royal Birkdale. A later Open programme can belong to a different course. Familiar tournament branding does not establish identical holes, conditions or score context across editions.
The title belongs to the complete result
In regular stroke play, the lowest total across the required rounds determines the winner under the competition conditions. A clubhouse lead before all relevant rounds are finished is a current position, not automatically the championship outcome.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| R3 | Third-round score |
| Total | Accumulated strokes |
| To par | Relation to the relevant par total |
| Through | Holes completed in the current round |
Use programme labels precisely
Final-round coverage follows the last scheduled round; final highlights are an edited account afterward. A featured group follows particular golfers rather than necessarily every leader. Preserve round and coverage type when saving a programme so a partial view is not mistaken for the complete championship story.
