The 2025 World Tournament used separate bracketsA final had a different scheduled distanceThe edition is part of a reliable event descriptionThe Professional Fighters League, or PFL, is a mixed martial arts promotion with global and regional event programmes. Its published 2026 event announcement distinguishes global events from the Africa and MENA regional programmes.
PFL’s competition format has changed between editions. Its official World Tournament rules remain explicitly labelled 2025, so that document describes a specific completed tournament rather than a universal format for every later PFL card.
The 2025 World Tournament used separate brackets
The 2025 rules set out eight weight divisions, each containing an eight-fighter single-elimination bracket. A winner advanced within that division; a defeated fighter was eliminated from that tournament route.
Eight entrants require three successive winning rounds to produce a champion: the first round, semi-final and final. These are bracket stages. They should not be confused with the timed rounds inside each individual fight.
A final had a different scheduled distance
The first-round and semi-final bouts were scheduled for three five-minute rounds. Division finals were scheduled for five five-minute rounds. A programme calling a bout a “final” therefore conveyed both its bracket importance and its different planned distance under those rules.
Several division finals could be placed on an event card. Winning one of them crowned the champion of that weight division, rather than a single champion across all divisions.
The edition is part of a reliable event description
For a 2025 World Tournament archive, include the year, division and stage. For a 2026 global, Africa or MENA card, use that card’s own competition identifier and published matchups. The older World Tournament bracket should not be silently transferred onto a differently named event.
This distinction also separates a promotion from one of its competitions. “PFL” identifies the wider organisation; “2025 World Tournament semi-final” identifies a particular sporting route within its history. Both labels can be accurate while answering different programme-guide questions.
