A tournament leaderboard measures performance in that event, while the FedExCup standings measure the season-long points contest and its route into the Playoffs.
For 2026, the Playoffs progressively reduce the field from 70 to 50 to 30 across three events. This reduction between events is different from a cut inside an ordinary tournament.
An event win and a points position are separate
Regular stroke play adds the strokes used across the competition’s rounds. The lowest total wins that event. FedExCup points then connect tournament finishes to the broader season. A player can lead the season standings without leading the tournament currently on screen.
The Playoffs narrow the eligible field
The top 70 qualify for the first Playoff event, the top 50 reach the next and the top 30 reach the TOUR Championship. The first two events award points that help decide progression. A top-50 season position is a route into another event, not a top-50 score on the current day.
The finale starts from even par
The 2026 TOUR Championship is a 72-hole stroke-play contest with all players starting at even par. Its best four-round performer wins the FedExCup. Older Starting Strokes explanations should not be imposed on this edition.
Progressive fields are not in-event cuts
The published Playoff format has no cuts within its events. Its 70-to-50-to-30 progression occurs between tournaments. A player can finish the first event but fail to reach the next.

Keep the complete tournament name
A programme called PGA Tour can be a round from one event or a broader highlights show. Preserve the event, round and season when saving coverage. The tour name identifies the series of tournaments; it does not establish which leaderboard or qualification boundary is being discussed.
