Google’s recording guide says the recording begins when you add it. A later rerun can replace a partial recording with a complete one.
Compare the broadcast start with the add time
Find the programme’s scheduled start and the time you added it to the Library. Preserve the episode or event identity. If the recording begins partway through, that timing comparison is the first useful explanation to check.
For an explicitly hypothetical example, a show starts at 20:00 and is added at 20:18. Under the documented late-add behaviour, the available recording can begin from 20:18. “Start from beginning” then refers to the available captured recording, not proof that the earlier broadcast was stored.
Distinguish the record action from an archive search
YouTube TV records eligible current and upcoming airings after the programme is added. It is not a general promise that every previous episode becomes a new full recording immediately. Read the official guide’s scope before interpreting an incomplete result as a broken account.
A series page or search result can help you find the programme, but the useful check is the actual captured item in the Library. Keep a live airing, a recording and any separately offered on-demand item distinct in your notes.
Check for a later full airing
Google says a later rerun can replace a partial episode with a full recording. Inspect the upcoming schedule for the same episode and keep it added if you want the service to capture eligible future airings. Do not assume a rerun is guaranteed merely because a programme has aired once.
A hypothetical viewer could find that the episode airs again the following day. The next step is to verify that exact listing and later inspect the Library result, rather than repeatedly delete and re-add the programme in the hope of recreating missing earlier minutes.
| Observation | Useful check |
|---|---|
| Recording begins after the programme started | Compare broadcast start and Library-add time |
| No full earlier portion | The late-add rule may explain it |
| A matching rerun is listed | Check whether a later full capture becomes available |
| A captured programme is defective | Use the player’s official recording-report route |
Plan important programmes before they begin
For a future event or episode, add the correct show, team or event ahead of the scheduled broadcast and confirm the relevant listing. Check current restrictions for a particular sport or network; Google notes that some events may not be recordable.
Keep the programme identity precise. A similarly named special, another team or a different airing can produce a misleading comparison. A short note containing the title, network, date and intended recording is enough for most household planning.
Report a genuine recording problem precisely
If the timing does not explain the problem, note where playback diverges from what was captured and use the official report mechanism described in the recording help. Provide the programme, airing and observation. That is more actionable than a general claim that the Library lost the beginning of every show.
