A Google TV kids profile lets a parent choose an app-focused television experience for a child. Google says the feature is unavailable on some devices or in some regions. Check that your TV offers Add a kid before following the setup.

App access and the content inside an app are different controls. Review the player’s own restrictions as well as the television profile.

Create the profile on the television

  1. From the Google TV Home screen, open the profile picture or initial.
  2. Under Choose an account, select Add account > Add a kid.
  3. Choose a child already in the family group or follow Add a kid to create the profile.
  4. Select the apps to include on the child’s Home screen.
  5. Follow the TV’s parental-control prompts and review the resulting profile.

Check the available controls

Google documents daily limits and downtime that must be set on Google TV, rather than through Family Link. Family Link can manage supported app access and app activity, but not every parental-control feature is available for the kids profile.

If the child uses both phone and TV versions of an app, Google advises blocking both versions when the aim is to prevent access on Google TV. Treat them as distinct app entries rather than assuming a phone restriction always covers the television edition.

Inspect what the allowed app contains

Allowing a player means allowing access to that application under the profile’s supported behavior. It does not prove that every category inside a third-party player is age appropriate or controlled by Google TV’s title restrictions.

Open the allowed app from the child profile and inspect its own settings. If it has a PIN or category controls, use the developer’s documented method. Keep the parent’s account credentials and service identifiers out of the child’s visible setup screens.

Review the real household workflow

Confirm that the child can reach only the apps you intended and understand how the profile lock and exit process work on that device. A kids profile not appearing inside an unsupported app is a documented limitation, not automatically a service fault.

Keep the parent’s recovery details available privately. Avoid changing the service subscription as a substitute for understanding the TV’s profile behavior. A streaming account’s device or connection allowance remains separate from Google’s family setup.

Revisit the app list when adding a player or changing devices. A new installation, different app edition or changed account state can alter the practical experience, so the useful review is the current child profile on the actual TV.
