A player backup can feel like a complete account record because it restores familiar screens. A receipt can feel like complete setup information because it proves a purchase. Neither necessarily serves the other purpose. Keeping preferences, transaction evidence and credentials distinct makes a device change easier to manage.

The actual export contents depend on the player, so consult its developer before handling a real backup.

Identify the purpose of each record

Preferences describe how a person uses the app: local favourites, labels or appearance settings where the app supports them. Purchase evidence identifies the seller, item, term and transaction. Credentials provide access. Combining all three in one shared file makes it hard to decide who needs it and how long it should remain available.

Use a replacement-device example

A household wants to preserve its favourite list while moving to a new device. It also needs to retain the service order and player receipt. A supported preference export may help the first task, but it does not establish licence transfer or service permission. The receipt remains necessary for the commercial identity, and connection details require their own protected handling.

Ask for the narrow export

If the app supports a preference-only export, use the option appropriate to the task. If it offers only a full backup and the contents are unclear, treat it as potentially sensitive. Do not upload it to an unrelated conversion site to discover what is inside. Ask the developer about the format and supported restore destination.

Keep evidence useful after the app is gone

A private order record should survive app removal without depending on the old backup format. Store the relevant receipt and seller confirmation in an accessible protected location. Then an obsolete export can be retired when no longer needed without losing the purchase trail. This reduces the pressure to keep every old app installation merely because it contains some account clue.

Document the handover accurately

State which preferences were preserved through a supported method, which account identity is current and which permissions were confirmed. Avoid saying everything transferred when only a local list was imported. The distinction protects the next account manager from assuming that a familiar-looking screen proves the service term, software purchase or device allowance is unchanged.

A useful handover can state that a favourites export exists and identify its supported source version without exposing the file broadly. The separate purchase index should still identify the current service order and software receipt. This gives the next manager a way to decide which record is needed for a preference restore, a licence question or a renewal.

Questions about this guide

Can I use a backup filename as the order reference?

A filename can be a local label, but it is not necessarily a seller-issued reference. Keep the actual order identifier separately and link it privately to the backup if needed. Do not put a password or complete connection URL in the filename.
