If you already support a participating station, check eligibility, activation and the original sign-in method before assuming that another donation is required.
Identify the station and benefit
Find the local station’s membership confirmation and current eligibility instructions. Stations set their own Passport qualifications, so a general PBS account or an unrelated donation is not enough to establish that the benefit is active.
A hypothetical supporter may remember making a donation but not completing activation. That is a different state from an activated member whose television is signed into another account. Keep those possibilities separate at the start.
Check activation rather than repeat the payment
PBS’s getting-started guide separates station processing, activation and sign-in. Use the station’s activation instructions or the official Passport lookup route. A donation acknowledgement is not necessarily the same communication as the benefit activation message.
Station timing can vary. PBS’s help pages describe processing and contacting the actual station when instructions are missing; use the current station guidance rather than treat a fixed processing time as a universal guarantee.
Use the same sign-in identity
PBS’s sign-in guide says to use the same PBS, Google, Facebook or Apple identity linked during activation. A different email or provider choice can lead to a different account, even if both logins work normally.
Look for the Passport indicator beside the signed-in identity as described by PBS. If it is absent, check whether activation is incomplete or another linked account should be used. Do not post activation codes, passwords or full donor records in a public support request.
| State | Next useful check |
|---|---|
| Supporter, no activation completed | Station instructions or official lookup |
| Activated, no Passport indicator | Original linked sign-in identity |
| Indicator present, one video unavailable | That video’s current benefit and rights scope |
| Unclear local eligibility | The participating station’s membership requirements |
Keep video availability separate
Even an active Passport benefit covers selected programming under its current conditions. PBS also provides many non-Passport videos. If the account is recognised but one item remains unavailable, inspect that video and its region or availability window rather than repeat the membership process.
A hypothetical viewer who can play one Passport-marked episode but not another has a more specific observation than someone whose account shows no benefit at all. Preserve the exact programme and message for official help.
Leave a clear household instruction
Once resolved, record the local station, the confirmed sign-in method and where to open the intended programme. Keep credentials private. That note helps another household member use the existing benefit and prevents a valid donation record from becoming confused with the account currently signed in on the screen.
