Google Cast discovery: check the network and receiver first

For Google TV, Google’s Cast workflow requires the sender and TV on the same Wi-Fi network and a current Cast-enabled app or supported Chrome route. If the television is missing from the device list, investigate discovery before changing the streaming account.

A receiver appearing and a programme playing are separate outcomes. Finding the TV does not prove that every media source supports the selected Cast route.

Compare the actual network names

On Google TV, open Network & Internet in settings and note the connected network. Compare it with the sender’s connection. Two devices both having internet access does not establish that they are on the same local network.

Use the network intended for the household setup. If a managed or guest network prevents local devices communicating, consult its administrator or documented router settings rather than changing unrelated provider account details.

Use the sending app’s Cast control

Open the supported app, select Cast and choose the intended TV name. Google describes the Cast icon changing state when connection is established. Stop the session through the app’s Cast control when finished.

A generic mirroring command is not the same as the app-integrated Cast route. The app and receiver must support the chosen method; a logo or a phone’s installed player does not establish that support.

Check the Google TV receiver component

Google’s help documents Settings > Apps > See all apps and the Google Cast app. If needed, look under system or disabled apps and enable the component through the documented control. The guide also gives a normal system restart route.

Use this narrowly. Do not disable or remove other system apps in an attempt to make discovery work. Record the current component state and the result of the supported change.

Move to playback only after discovery works

Once the TV can be selected, try the intended media and record whether playback begins. If another supported app casts but the selected player does not, report that application-specific result.

For a Dream 4K player, ask whether its Cast feature supports the issued account route. Do not assume that a successful local connection adds service entitlement or permits another simultaneous stream.

A useful report includes sender device/OS, player app/version, receiving Google TV model, network relationship and stage that fails. Keep tokenized URLs and credentials out of it. This evidence distinguishes a missing receiver, a failed connection and a source playback problem without replacing several working components at once.
