For Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer, Google documents two storage actions: clear temporary app cache and uninstall apps you no longer use. Start by deciding what you need to keep rather than removing the player you rely on.

Google states that clearing cached data through its documented storage route leaves you signed in. That is a different operation from clearing an app’s persistent data or deleting the app.

Choose the narrow action

Cache contains temporary material an app can recreate. Clearing it is useful when storage is low, but it should not be described as a way to renew an account, fix an incorrect password or provide a missing programme.

An unused application occupies space even if its shortcut is out of sight. Review installed apps deliberately. If another household member uses one, confirm its role before removing it, and keep the information required to sign back in privately.

Clear the cache on the documented devices

  1. Select the profile icon on the Google TV Home screen and open Settings.
  2. Go to System > Storage > Internal shared storage > Cached data.
  3. Choose OK to clear cached data.
  4. Return to the player and check the original storage message or action.

Remove an app you no longer need

  1. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps.
  2. Choose the specific unused application.
  3. Select Uninstall and confirm with OK.
  4. Check available storage again before making another change.

Know when this task is finished

The aim is enough available space for normal device operation or the intended update. It is not necessary to remove every cache or keep repeating the operation during playback. Cache can grow again as applications are used.

If an update still fails, record the device model, remaining storage, application and exact error. That separates an actual space limit from a store, network or compatibility problem. A large advertised capacity also includes system use; it is not all free app storage.

Keep a brief record of any application you removed and its developer. If you later need it, return to the appropriate store listing rather than downloading a lookalike. For a streaming player, app recovery and service reactivation can be different actions, so retain both sets of information without exposing private account details.
