Set up the Control Center remoteCheck nearby keyboard requirementsEnter private text carefullySeparate a remote issue from a login issueApple supports an Apple TV Remote in iPhone or iPad Control Center, and a nearby keyboard feature for entering text on Apple TV. They are related conveniences with different setup requirements. The nearby keyboard documentation specifies the same Apple Account with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
Use the feature that matches the task. Pairing a phone remote does not activate a streaming account, and a local pairing code is not a player licence key.
Set up the Control Center remote
- Connect the iPhone or iPad to the same Wi-Fi network as the Apple TV.
- Open Control Center and choose Apple TV Remote. Add the control if it is missing.
- Choose the correct Apple TV from the list.
- Follow the displayed instructions and enter the four-digit passcode on the phone or tablet if requested.
- Confirm that navigation works on the intended television.
Check nearby keyboard requirements
Apple’s nearby keyboard guide says the iPhone or iPad and Apple TV should use the same Apple Account, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled on the mobile device. The keyboard can be offered when a text field appears on the Apple TV.
This requirement should not be confused with the separate local remote pairing steps. A phone can be close to the TV but still be using a different account or have the necessary radio feature disabled.
Enter private text carefully
Select the correct field on the television before typing from the phone. Review the entered address or username on the TV and avoid adding spaces or changing encoded parts of a provider URL.
The phone keyboard changes the input method, not the privacy of the television display. Other people in the room can still see visible account fields, and a screen recording can capture private details. Finish the account task and close its fields before sharing a screenshot.
Separate a remote issue from a login issue
If the Apple TV is missing from the phone’s device list, check network and supported software using Apple’s remote guide. If navigation works but a sign-in fails, confirm the exact player and account format instead. Re-pairing a functioning remote cannot correct provider credentials.
Record which function failed: device discovery, passcode pairing, navigation or keyboard entry. Include the mobile and tvOS versions with the app identity when requesting help.
Do not publish local pairing codes or service passwords in a support conversation that does not require them. Describe the screen and outcome. An app developer or service provider can often investigate a field or format problem using those details without seeing the secret itself.
