Ligue 1 is France’s top men’s professional football division, currently presented as Ligue 1 McDonald’s. Its 2026/27 programme has eighteen clubs and 34 matchdays.

The league’s official programme identifies its final two matchdays as simultaneous-match rounds, commonly presented as Multiplex. That label describes a coverage and scheduling context, not a separate football competition.

Seventeen opponents played twice

An eighteen-club home-and-away league gives each club seventeen opponents and 34 fixtures. Ligue 1 therefore does not have the same club match count as a twenty-club, 38-round league. Coupe de France appearances are outside this league allocation.

Multiplex links simultaneous matches

During a simultaneous round, several fixtures can affect the same table boundaries. A broad coverage programme may move among grounds or combine their results. A named-match programme instead follows one fixture within that wider round.

The final round still contains individual fixtures

Every match has its own score and participants even when kick-offs align. A goal at another ground can change a club’s provisional position without changing its own match score. Keep the table and the fixture scoreboard as separate views.

A broadcast block is not a new matchday

Multiplex coverage can contain previews, live updates and post-match analysis around the scheduled games. Its elapsed runtime does not identify the minute of play at every ground. The match clock on each feed supplies that context.

Distinguish Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and cup football

A familiar French club can appear in all kinds of domestic coverage over several seasons. Ligue 2 identifies another tier and the Coupe de France another competition. Preserve the full title, season and matchday when saving programmes.

Treat the final table as the completed record

A live Multiplex table is provisional while matches continue. Late goals can change its order. The final validated standings supply the completed league outcome; a screen captured midway through the round records only that moment’s position.
