RTVE Play and RTVE Play+: free Spanish viewing and the international offer

Distinguish RTVE Play from the separately described international RTVE Play+ service, then check the programme’s actual availability.

RTVE Play is RTVE’s online home for on-demand programmes and live viewing. Its current FAQ explains that it replaced the former A la Carta service in 2021. RTVE Play+ is a separately described international subscription offer; the plus sign should not be treated as a universal requirement for watching an ordinary RTVE replay.

The free service combines several kinds of viewing

RTVE’s FAQ describes on-demand television alongside live channels such as La 1, La 2, Teledeporte and Canal 24 Horas, as well as additional online channels. Choose the actual programme or live feed you want, since an episode listing and a channel stream answer different needs.

An account can provide personal features, but account identity and programme availability are separate questions. A saved programme does not override its rights window. If an episode has left the available catalogue, returning to the same account will not by itself make that episode playable.

International Play+ is a different product check

The international RTVE Play+ help describes a subscription offering for Spanish-language programming outside Spain. Read its current country and purchase information before comparing it with the domestic free service. The word international does not establish identical programmes or viewing rights in every country.

For a hypothetical viewer visiting family abroad, the first check is whether the intended programme is offered in that location. Buying a similarly named subscription is a separate decision that requires inspecting the international catalogue and terms. A domestic programme link is not evidence of a matching Play+ listing.

Check the episode and accessibility options together

RTVE’s guidance recognises territorial restrictions and programme availability windows. It also describes accessibility options, including subtitles and audio description where offered. Inspect the individual episode and its controls if a specific accessibility track matters to you.

For support, keep the programme title, episode, location and observed error together. State whether you are using RTVE Play or RTVE Play+, and whether the issue concerns a live stream, an on-demand programme or an accessibility option. That description is much more useful than treating all services with the RTVE name as one interchangeable account.
