Roku hardware, a Roku account and a paid channel subscription are separate layers. A Channel-labelled payment should be traced to the actual purchase rather than interpreted as a fee for every free video.
Read the actual content offer
Roku’s billing help explicitly says The Roku Channel is free, while an optional subscription purchased through it can create a charge. Inspect the title or service offer and the account’s subscription list before deciding what is included.
A hypothetical viewer may browse free content and later accept a separate service trial. The resulting renewal belongs to that optional purchase, not a retroactive price for all Channel viewing. Keep the service name with the confirmation.
The device is not the subscription
A Roku player can run the Channel and other supported apps. Paying for hardware does not itself define the entitlement to every app or paid programme. Use the account and actual service offer to identify the viewing right.
Roku documents several supported ways to watch its subscriptions beyond the original screen. Check the specific product route rather than assume every provider subscription sold somewhere on Roku has identical login rules.
Manage the purchase through its documented route
Roku’s current subscription help distinguishes Roku subscriptions from provider-managed offers and lists exceptions. Follow the entry matching the actual seller and product. A service installed on the device can still be managed by another company.
For a household record, retain the exact subscription, billing label, account and intended player. Some services have documented linking to their own apps; others use the Roku Channel route. Do not generalise one provider’s linking option to every paid channel.
If a charge is unfamiliar, inspect the official purchase history and subscription page privately before making another purchase or deleting apps. A logo on the device home screen is less informative than the actual active subscription entry.
