Doordarshan and individual DD channels
Prasar Bharati identifies Doordarshan as its television division and lists DD National, DD News, DD Sports, DD India and regional services. A request for “DD” therefore needs a channel name before it identifies the intended schedule.
The channel directory includes names such as DD Tamil, DD Sahyadri, DD Girnar and DD Odia. Preserve the official name rather than converting every regional service into an undifferentiated “Indian TV” label. The local or language identity is often exactly what makes the programme valuable to the viewer.
DD India and domestic news are different references
Prasar Bharati identifies DD News and DD India as separate news services. The government’s Press Information Bureau describes DD India as an English news service with a global audience, including the diaspora. That is a different editorial reference from a domestic regional bulletin.
A household seeking English-language international news about India and a household seeking a familiar state bulletin should name those needs separately. The same country connection does not establish the same language or programme schedule.
State, language and production origin are separate clues
A regional title can point to a state or linguistic audience, but a programme’s actual spoken language should be checked on the programme itself. Original dialogue, dubbing and subtitles are not interchangeable.
For a hypothetical family following both Tamil drama and an English news discussion, preserve the two original programme titles and services. A translated English genre label loses the distinction between the content and the version being sought.
DD Free Dish names a distribution platform
Prasar Bharati’s channel information also describes DD Free Dish. The distribution-platform name is not itself a television programme and cannot establish another provider’s line-up.
For sport or a live ceremony, add the exact event and date. For a serial, include the episode. These details allow the desired content to be identified without assuming every regional DD channel is a simultaneous copy of a national one.
