Amazon’s documented update route is Settings > My Fire TV or Device & Software > About > Check for System Update. Use the menu label present on your device. This checks Fire TV system software, not a Dream player APK.

Amazon publishes different software records for different models, including Fire OS and Vega devices. A version number from another stick is not a target your unit should be forced to match.

Identify the model before the comparison

Keep the complete product name and generation in your setup note. Fire TV Stick 4K, 4K Max, 4K Plus and 4K Select are separate entries, and successive generations can differ too.

If comparing with Amazon’s software table, use the exact model row. Its current update value is a changing record, so rely on the live reference and the device’s own update check rather than an old number copied into an installation guide.

Run the system update check

  1. Open Settings from the Fire TV menu.
  2. Select My Fire TV or Device & Software.
  3. Choose About.
  4. Select Check for System Update.
  5. Follow the device’s displayed installation instructions and let the operation complete.

After the update, open the player you used before and repeat the specific action you were checking. Note its app version separately. A device-software update and an application update are different changes, even if both become available around the same time.

Amazon says connected Fire TV devices and paired accessories can download updates automatically. An update check is therefore a maintenance observation, not proof that a playback failure was caused by old software.

Know what an update cannot do

A Fire OS APK is not a firmware image, and Amazon states that those APKs do not run on Vega. Do not use an Android download as a way to change a Vega stick into Fire OS or to make it accept an unsupported player.

Likewise, updating the device cannot renew Dream 4K access or buy an independent app licence. If the player opens but asks for activation, identify which organization issued that activation requirement.

For a failed system update, record the exact model, current version, available storage if shown and the on-screen error. Use Amazon’s model-specific support. For a player-only problem, include the player identity and the failing action so support can investigate the appropriate layer without resetting every account on the device.
