Before changing payment details or cancelling, identify that route. Removing the app from a screen is a device action and does not establish that billing has stopped.
Find the current purchase record
Look for the confirmation or the subscription entry in the account that manages the payment. Identify the seller and the email associated with the purchase. Keep that information private; a support request rarely needs a complete bank statement or exposed card details.
A hypothetical household may remember watching on an Amazon device without remembering whether the purchase was a Prime channel or the standalone Acorn app. The device name alone does not settle the billing route.
Distinguish a Fire TV app from a channel add-on
Acorn’s own help says the Prime add-on and the standard membership are separate systems. It also distinguishes the Acorn Fire TV app from that add-on. Use the exact wording on the purchase record to choose the relevant help entry.
This is why trying the same password everywhere can be misleading. A partner channel does not necessarily create a standard standalone account with a shared watchlist. Resolve the system identity before resetting multiple accounts or subscribing again.
| Purchase route | Management starting point |
|---|---|
| Direct Acorn TV membership | Acorn TV account and official direct-billing help |
| Device-store subscription | That store’s subscription-management entry |
| Prime channel add-on | Amazon’s channel-subscription management |
| Another listed provider | Acorn’s current help entry for that provider |
Follow the seller-specific instructions
Acorn’s cancellation help asks where the membership was started and provides separate routes. Select the seller actually charging the subscription. A payment-method control inside another app may not govern that recurring purchase.
For an explicitly hypothetical example, deleting Acorn TV from a television and then cancelling a different store trial would leave the original channel subscription question unresolved. Confirm the exact active entry before making an account change.
Keep the confirmation of the change
After following the official route, read the result and retain the cancellation or plan-change confirmation. Check any stated final access date and renewal status. A successful sign-out or an empty device home screen is not the same evidence.
If you cannot identify the seller, use Acorn’s official help for finding the billing source rather than guessing from the logo on the player. Provide the relevant transaction reference privately when support requests it through an appropriate channel.
Write one clear household note
Record “watch through this app or channel; billed by this provider” and the current term. That note should describe the subscription, not contain its password. It makes later access, payment and renewal questions easier to resolve and prevents an account-management problem from becoming an unnecessary duplicate purchase.
